For £30 for a night in a double bed, the basic room was understandable, and the bed and bathroom were clean. We only needed somewhere to sleep, arriving late and leaving early. We’d read some pretty bad reviews, but I didn’t find it as bad as some people said. The man on reception was friendly and helpful on the phone when we were arriving, and suggested a good nearby place to park for free. We’d read reports about bed bugs and checked our bed thoroughly. We saw no signs of them and had no bites in the morning, though we hung our clothes up off the floor overnight just in case. In the morning, though, we heard another guest say they’d found bed bugs in their bed, so I guess we were lucky with our room. The hallway and stairs had a really unpleasant smell of old sweat, but thankfully our room smelled fine. There was no lamp, just the main light, which wasn’t great for relaxing before bed. It was warm enough, and we didn’t hear much noise. We weren’t there on a weekend, though, and imagine it could be worse if drunk people came in late.

After a five-hour journey with a child, we left within five minutes and found somewhere else to stay. The room wasn’t the sea view we’d been told to expect. Putty held the door lock in place, and the window lock was broken. The window led onto a lower roof, making it easy for someone to get in, or for a child to get out. The toilet was filthy, the bed had stains and the floors were dirty. Do NOT waste your time. It felt more like a knocking shop and shelter than a hotel. Happy to post video.

The reception was fine, but the rest of the stay was awful. The halls smelled damp, the carpets were filthy, and the rooms were full of old furniture with bathrooms covered in silicone. The sheets were clean, and there was tea and coffee, though I wouldn't use the kettle. The windows left a two-inch gap, so the room was draughty and noisy. Groups of men lingered by the main entrance, doors banged all night, and I didn't feel safe in the room. I left early. It wasn't cheap enough to put up with all that, and I wouldn't stay or recommend it again.

Skegness was ideally placed for our visit to family, especially for a summer trip. The hotel was quiet, and our room was warm, comfortable and clean. The ensuite shower was nice, with fresh towels and new wash products provided. There was tea, coffee, milk and sugar with a kettle in the room, and parking nearby. We'd stay again, it had what we needed.

We spent nine hours waiting in reception with no help at all, and people were coming and going with no security. We arrived at 1am but couldn't get into our room because the key wouldn't work while the latch was on. There wasn't anyone in the hotel, no staff at all. A note said someone had gone for ten minutes and gave a number to call for help. We rang over and over, but nobody answered. By then we were so drained we were asking around for somewhere else to sleep.
