Hockley House

We had dinner at the hotel both nights and found the food good and well priced. It’s a simple, comfortable base for visiting nearby National Trust properties, Stratford and the surrounding area. We stayed for two nights in February, and really liked the family-run feel. It felt as if everyone wanted us to be comfortable and was looking after us.

The restaurant was a welcoming place to sit, with plenty of choice and food that seemed to be cooked to order. My only issue was how generous the portions were, more than I could manage. Breakfast was very good too, and made to order. Everyone we met was friendly and professional. My room was modern and comfortable, with a kettle, a contemporary bathroom, fluffy towels and a roomy shower with plenty of hot water. Kate got reception just right when I arrived, and later spent a lot of time helping me with the TV remote. Before the stay, Catherine was excellent on the phone and by email. I was struck by the thought and care put into the hotel, even in the Christmas decorations, which you may miss unless you arrive at just the right time. It all felt typical of the place. I’m glad I found it, couldn’t have asked for a better stay, and have already booked again.

The rooms were clean, warm and comfortable, though there wasn’t any shower gel or shampoo, so bring your own. The car park is well lit, and you can park right up to planters, which suited our vans with tools inside. Most rooms look over the parking area, so security felt good. We stayed for a night while heading to build a stand at the NEC, about 15 minutes away, and it cost a fraction of the Crown Plaza or Hilton. Check-in was quick when we arrived in the late afternoon. The after-work happy hour was a nice extra, even though the bar drinks weren’t especially expensive to begin with. We tried a few curries as a group, and the bar meals were really good. I’d stay again for another NEC build if the price is still right.

We hired the Garden Room for my Mom’s 80th, and the team at Hockley House made the day memorable. They looked after us so well, serving meals to all 32 people in good time and staying attentive throughout. I couldn’t have picked a better place for Mom’s special day. Thanks to everyone.
