If you can’t verify someone’s guarantor and aren’t able to proceed, refund their deposit as promised at the Student Fair. You shouldn’t be taking deposits and trying to keep them in that situation.

The day before my one night stay, booked and paid for through Hotels.com, I still hadn’t heard anything. The property didn’t reply when I tried to contact them, and Hotels.com couldn’t get through either. I eventually found a number and called the student accommodation line, only to be told they couldn’t check guests in at weekends. They were happy to take the money, but there was no service or empathy. If they can’t arrange a one night stay, I dread to think how students are treated.

For £100 for three nights, this was cheap and cheerful enough for somewhere to sleep while visiting friends. The location is excellent for getting around Southampton, and having a private bathroom and kitchen was useful. But the room got extremely hot at night, with no aircon, so bring a fan unless you like sweating. The pillows were flat and my head sank into them; I’d bring your own. It didn’t feel like the place had been dusted before I arrived, and walking barefoot left dirt on the white covers. I also kept seeing little creepy crawlies, perhaps ants or small bugs, on the kitchen counter, which put me off using the facilities. There was no cutlery or iron, and only one set of plates and a bowl. No TV either, though I had my laptop. I didn’t expect much from student accommodation at that price, but the cleaning needs work. It was fine for a short stay since I was hardly there, but I probably wouldn’t come back.

I’m here for my second year and couldn’t be happier. The rooms are spacious, the amenities are great, and it’s surprisingly cheaper than most university accommodation despite offering more space. The location is handy for pretty much everything, and there’s 24 hour security. I’ve never had an issue. The manager is fantastic, always dealing with things, smiling, and bringing great energy to the place. I highly recommend it to students looking for somewhere to stay.
