The outside could use a lot of work: there’s no sign or house number, and the grounds need weeding and a tidy-up. Inside, my bedroom and ensuite had recently been refurbished, were spotless, and had a useful fridge. The fittings aren’t fancy, but they’re clean and in decent condition. The windows kept traffic noise down despite the main road location. There are no staff on site. An hour before I arrived, I got a message with the key safe codes. Staff can service the room if you phone or message, and they were polite and quick to answer questions. The communal kitchen was large, clean, and well equipped, with a washing machine, freezer, cooker, and more. There’s a pub, a couple of takeaways, and an M&S a few minutes away. It’s on a good bus route, a ten-minute walk from the hospital, and there’s plenty of free parking out front. I’d be happy to return.

The room was £86 for one night, and it felt massively overpriced. The TV had no signal, there was a kettle but no tea or coffee, and I waited an hour for someone to let me into the property even though check-in was advertised for 3pm. The chair was broken, and the room looked as though squatters had been there before me. I sent my complaints on WhatsApp, but the message was read and completely ignored. Avoid this guest house if you ask me. Even £26 would have been still...

I really enjoyed the stay and would come back, especially if visiting the hospital. The place was extremely clean, with a large room, very comfy bed, great duvet, and ensuite. The shower had strong pressure and could get too hot, though it wasn’t up to American standards. The communal kitchen was spotless, with two microwaves and a large cooker with five hobs and three ovens. If you use anything, you need to wash it up. The dining area was a little sparse, but the conservatory off the kitchen was bright and airy, with a large TV showing Sky Sports/Movies and so on. You get keys for both the front door and your room, so you can come and go freely. The location worked well, about five minutes from the Malvern pub, which looked good quality though I didn’t try it. Jade Palace Chinese takeaway was nearby too, with tasty food and quick service. I’d have given another star, but without a restaurant or breakfast it didn’t feel fair to other places. The shower water pressure was very good, but not up to American standards.

I’m unhappy with my three-day stay and won’t be back. Around 4pm on arrival, there was no reception to hand over my key, just a side door with key safes. I had to phone for an access code and waited about 40 minutes. There was no staff member to show me around or explain where the kitchen was. On my last day, someone knocked on my room door at about 1am while I was asleep, saying there was a leak from my room and they needed to check it. I had a five-hour drive home the next day and got no peace or rest.

The room was a good size and nicely finished. The kitchen had enough to make basic meals, and having Sainsbury's five minutes' walk away was handy. There’s also a pub and takeaways within walking distance if you’d rather not cook. Carmel is a 15-minute drive from Paultons Park. Both nights, other guests arrived very late and made a ridiculous amount of noise, especially one night. Keep that in mind if you have young children who might wake up.
