Muthu Westcliff Hotel (Near London Southend Airport)

We came for panto at cliffs pavilion theatre, only 100 meters away. Our room, 104, was huge, on a corner, with fabulous sea views through two windows and an amazing sunset. It was immaculate, with a massive bathroom, a jetted bath, good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The bed was comfy and we slept fine, though the mattress may be ready for replacing or needs a topper. I was pleasantly surprised after reading negative reviews. The grand old building clearly needs updating, but it felt very clean. Downstairs, the reception and bar rooms have dated elegance and the comfiest chairs and sofas. The receptionist who welcomed us was warm and attentive, and served us drinks at the bar later in the evening. Breakfast was self service with plenty of hot food. I didn't try the cold options, so I can't say what was available. Parking cost 5.42, directly outside the hotel, and you book it through the Ringo app. Reception has all the details and numbers. I gave it five stars because the staff, location, breakfast and our room deserved it. The updating is needed, but it didn't spoil our experience. We'd definitely return. The kellett's

We came for four nights over Christmas, and the staff made us feel so welcome. The room stayed warm and was clean and comfortable, with fresh towels and the bins emptied each day. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including fruit, yoghurt, cereal, eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, toast and pastries, plus tea, coffee and marmalade. There was also tea, coffee, biscuits and a kettle in the room. It’s a short walk to the Cliffs Pavilion theatre and about 10-15 minutes into Southend. Thanks for making Christmas such a lovely stay. Fingers crossed we can come back next year.

The price and location worked really well for a show at the Pavilion, £105 for two nights, and we’ve had great stays here many times. We’d still recommend it. The room was unusually hot despite it being 7 degrees outside in January, so we needed the fan to sleep without baking. We were given a triple room, which meant an unused single bed, though the extra space was fine. The main drawback is that reception can be slow. One evening we waited a good 15-20 minutes before anyone came to help.

The location is a real plus, and this is the hotel I choose whenever I visit. Each stay has left me happy, and I’m already planning another trip in February. The rooms are spacious, clean and cosy, with thoughtful details throughout. Staff are polite, attentive and always willing to help, and the service has been excellent.
