The Welbeck Hotel

I’ve been here for more than two months and the team has made me feel at home the whole time. The housekeeping and front desk staff are consistently polite, professional, and ready to help, always with a smile. The rooms are spacious, kept in great shape, and the sheets are clean and fresh. It’s also handy for both work and leisure, with the sea and main street a short walk away. A really comfortable stay, and I’d recommend it to anyone coming to Southend-on-Sea.

We needed a bed at short notice and did get a decent night's sleep. There were three of us, each with our own very comfortable bed, and the bathroom was clean. The staff member who showed us to the room was polite and friendly. The room itself is tired, though, with peeling wallpaper and stained carpet, and the toilet barely flushed. That was the worst part.

I booked at the last minute because I was too tired to drive home, and the place was much better than the horror story I’d imagined after reading reviews. My room was roomy and clean, the big TV worked fine, and having tea, coffee and a kettle included was a nice extra. The receptionist was kind and gave me all the information I needed. It’s an old hotel, but a cheap place to stay.

The area didn’t feel safe, and inside the hotel the rooms were dirty with a strong smell. It’s very dated. I had to ask for different pillows because mine were moldy, though they did give me new ones. A disappointing stay, and I won’t return.
