Forty Winks In North Norfolk

We’re already looking forward to coming back next year. It’s a beautifully converted cart lodge, thoughtfully equipped with everything we could need. The hosts were so helpful, and had clearly thought of all the details in the accommodation.

The quiet here was a real treat. At night it was pitch black and so still you could hear a pin drop, a lovely change from the orange glow around our city home. Forty Winks is tucked away in the Norfolk countryside, so it’s ideal if you enjoy being out in the wilderness. We also found there was plenty to see nearby. Great Yarmouth was beautiful and took less than an hour, even with a coffee stop, and Cromer was just around the corner. We wished we’d booked a whole week. We stayed for three nights after finding Forty Winks on Trip Advisor. We’d never visited Norfolk, though we knew it was supposed to be beautiful. The place looked stunning, but it had only been open for a few months and had just a handful of reviews, so booking felt like a bit of a risk. We arrived around 5pm on 13th Aug 2015. Sally and her Husband Chris welcomed us and showed us around, including how everything worked. The lodge was a little gem, completely separate from the main house where Sally and Chris live. It felt private, like our own home away from home. Inside, it was clean and cosy, with everything we needed. There was even a continental breakfast, and we could choose our bread and milk. My wife and I only use Semi Skimmed milk, so that small detail meant a lot. Sally and Chris were wonderful hosts, always on hand to help and full of local knowledge. They suggested places to visit each day and we weren’t disappointed. Chris told us about the Seals at Horsey, which we’d have missed otherwise. Seeing them was an amazing experience for both of us. Sally and Chris are such friendly people, and before long they felt like good friends. We’ll definitely book Forty Winks again. Can’t wait for next time, thank you Forty Winks.

The owners were lovely, and we had a wonderful stay. It was so peaceful at night under the stars, with local beautyspots very close by.
