The Waterwheel Inn

We had a lovely two-night stay celebrating my husband's birthday. The service was really friendly and helpful, and the food was superb. Our room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. It's a great base for the nearby China clay museum and historic Charlestown. The wet February weather made it hard to enjoy the hidden seating spots and sunny corners, but we'd love to come back to see the beautiful gardens in full bloom.

We felt very welcome at The Waterwheel, and our Junior Suite was marvelous. The host Francesca and her team were friendly and helpful, and we can definitely recommend the dinners. With its river, ponds, trees and large garden, it's a wonderful place to explore Cornwall from.

The garden is nice, and it's a sweet little place just five minutes from st austell, handy if you need to stay near there. The rooms are small but comfortable, with a good shower. Breakfast wasn't served until 8.30, so I missed it. I ate at the restaurant one night, and my burger was very average.

The Waterwheel was just what we needed for a quiet stay, with plenty of parking and a handy location for our evening meal and event at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Donna welcomed us so warmly as soon as we arrived, showed us the garden and restaurant, then took us to our room. It was spacious, cosy and very clean, including the bathroom. The heating was already on, which was much appreciated, and the shower was lovely and hot with strong pressure. The bathroom radiator and towel rail were warm too. Breakfast the next morning was excellent and had good options for pescatarian and vegetarian diets, plus marmite :) The waitress was pleasant and attentive, the chef was friendly and experienced, and those were the best poached eggs I've tasted, great with the smoked salmon. We really enjoyed our first stay on 14th Feb. Thanks for having us, we'll come again and stay longer :) x
