The lighthouse views were glorious from the window, and the food was good, especially the tasty batter and crispy thick-cut chips. The mushy peas were just okay, though I'm not really a fan of them. We arrived at Corbiere Phare hungry and thirsty after following the coastal path from St Brelade's bay to Lighthouse La Corbiere. A lady we'd met out walking had suggested it, and we were welcomed, but told we had two minutes to order before the kitchen closed. Five minutes later, the fish and chips arrived. Seeing the burgers, roast chicken and steak on skewers at the next table gave me a bit of food envy. I was a little disappointed that desserts cost £11 each. Football was on in another part of the bar. I bet the place is packed in summer, and deservedly so. Highly recommended.

The views are excellent, but what happened really put me off. My mum, who's 96, asked me to get her a drink once my steak had been served at our outdoor table. I'd already asked her before the meal arrived, and she'd said no. There's no outdoor table service, so you have to order food and drinks at the bar. While I was getting her drink, a seagull swooped down and knocked my entire meal onto the ground. I had no choice but to buy it again, and the staff's attitude was basically, tough luck. The food wasn't the greatest either. Without the seagull disaster, I'd have rated it three stars overall.

The garlic bread and veggie lasagne I had were delicious. It was VERY expensive, though, but being in such a prime spot means they can get away with it. They get really busy at weekends, so I'd book ahead.

Clear guidance for a gluten-free diet is available for people with Coeliac Disease, and they even have a separate fryer for chips. I had a lovely sandwich lunch with superb views over Jersey's south west corner, towards La Corbiere lighthouse and the sea crashing against the rocks. Highly recommended.

The waiter was brilliant and really accommodating with the menu, and we had a fabulous lunch. The state of the toilets was the sad part. They should replace the toilet seat before someone gets hurt.
