The food was the weak point, which was a shame because the venue looks lovely and the staff were great. My bacon chop was tough and dry, and the frozen chips weren’t cooked very well. The pan-fried chicken and leek was dry and tough too. I’ve had better meals for less money. First impressions were good, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, nice lighting, and cosy spots that look suited to relaxing or meeting friends. The car park was very busy and felt too small. I got the last space just as another car was leaving.

The meal was very poor, especially for the high prices. You can eat better at a cheap, cheerful chain up the road, and that says a lot. We were a fairly large birthday party, and booking communication was terrible. Without any warning, we were made to leave the table after two hours, even though our puddings had only just arrived as the time was up. The staff were rushed off their feet because it was too busy. You’d expect somewhere that’s been “done up” to be top notch, but this was a bad start to the reopening. I live locally and won’t be going back. 😞

The hotel bar is magnificent, and the stay was quiet and friendly. The staff made us feel like we were welcome in their home. The rooms were perfectly okay, with tea and coffee in the room and a nice shower. Just be prepared that there’s no breakfast.

The food was gorgeous, though service took a little while. Some areas are quite dimly lit, which wasn’t great for my elderly family. There’s a large car park at the back.

We had a great time holding our wedding reception here in December. Emma and her team were fantastic, and the food was just what we wanted. Communication was great from start to finish.
