La Fregate Hotel

The Tennerfest lunch was delicious from start to finish, all three courses. Service was friendly and really good, and the view across town, the harbour, and the islands was beautiful.

The room had such a good feel to it, with a huge balcony, plenty of space, a clean bathroom, and a comfortable bed. The view was amazing too. It’s about a five-minute walk to the city centre, and the hotel itself is beautiful. Staff were courteous, professional, and lovely to deal with. Food was delicious, and you can get small bites from the kitchen until 9pm, which was handy. The usual hours apply for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything about the stay felt just right. Cheers to the team!

There was no fridge or minibar in the room, and breakfast was extremely limited, as the photo called "Breakfast buffet" shows. There’s no pool, spa, or wellness area either. We had booked and paid for a deluxe hotel, but La Frégate felt like an average mid-range place. That might suit a 3-star hotel, but it falls well short of what I’d expect from four or five stars.

The restaurant is worth visiting for a meal. Dinner’s tasting menu was excellent, breakfast was pleasant enough but had a sparse buffet, and the restaurant gives you a panoramic view of the port and islands. The hotel has old-world charm, including a grand central staircase. Our room had a lovely view, but it was very, very dated. The shower was tiny, with an okay electric unit, and there was wood-chip wallpaper on the ceiling. Wiring ran along the skirting, while repairs looked poorly finished. Pipes came through the bathroom floor without connecting to anything, and the bath panels were falling off. At over £200 a night, that wasn’t what I expected. I’d come for dinner, but wouldn’t stay there.
