The duck Caesar salad was a lovely choice for lunch with my wife, and I want to compliment the chef. I’ve eaten at the Swan because I expect good food and service, but this visit was marred by how a senior member of staff treated me. We were seated by the window in the small dining area beside Hotel Reception. A sofa and other seats separated us from the desk. Halfway through lunch, a Manager and Deputy Manager began a loud conversation there. I could hear details about personnel policy changes. When it seemed likely to continue, I politely told the manager that it wasn’t appropriate to discuss such matters within earshot of diners. She didn’t seem concerned that we’d heard the conversation or apologise for the disruption. Instead, she told me, "This was their office," that they had work to do, and nowhere else to go. I felt firmly put in my place and went back to finish lunch. A few minutes later, the Manager in Question moved away from the spot where she’d been speaking so loudly. Her behaviour showed no consideration for guests’ dining experience or for staff whose policy changes were being discussed in public. Her response to my polite comment was rude. I expect better from staff of the Coaching Inn Group.
We stayed one night for a show at the theatre. The room was lovely and spotlessly clean, and the bathroom had lovely toiletries. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was excellent. We also had a lovely meal in the restaurant. I’d recommend the fish, chips and mushy peas. It came piping hot and was gluten free. My husband is GF, while I’m not, and we both enjoyed it.
The hotel team made our lunch for my father’s 87th birthday a wonderful occasion. We had 31 people of mixed ages and a couple of dietary requirements, and nothing seemed too much trouble. From front of house through to the kitchen, everyone was amazing. The meals arrived beautifully presented and tasted wonderful, with plenty of individual choices. The whole team deserves congratulations for the food, service and smiles throughout.
All the staff we dealt with were capable, professional and confident, and the table service exceeded expectations. The atmosphere in the main dining room was excellent as well. The four of us had an excellent dinner there tonight, 6th Feb. Please pass on our thanks for such an enjoyable evening.
The free car park connects to the back of the hotel, which is a real lifesaver. I enjoy staying at The Swan on my business trips because the location is fantastic, the food is great and all the staff are extremely friendly. On 26/02, I had a great meal with Carla serving. She was attentive and very likeable. Thanks for your help.
