Bury Lodge

I was there for a party on Saturday, and the bar staff were the rudest people I've ever come across. Their language was appalling, and they seemed to make up prices as they went. They shouldn't be working in hospitality.

The house is beautiful inside, and the outdoor area has the basics it needs. We were there for a family wedding in September, and I found the outside setup tiring: there were only old picnic tables, and I didn't want to sit on them in my satin dress. I'd suggest adding chairs or proper garden furniture. Better mattresses would help too, as I've never slept on one so uncomfortable. One benefit for plane enthusiasts, perhaps, is how close the venue is to Stansted. For us, the constant plane noise through the day was a downside.

The £10 minimum for card payments felt excessive when we'd already spent £1000 to hire the venue. The UK terminal rental fee can be £20 to £50 a month, with transaction charges usually around 1-3%, though that varies by provider and card type. So it's not that expensive... 😡 I attended a birthday event here recently. The place is clean, spacious, easy to get to, and has plenty of parking. It works well for weddings, business meetings and other events, and the staff were friendly. It would be more convenient if there weren't a minimum card payment.

The hostess and manager was so lovely and attentive, helping us get the barn ready beforehand and going above and beyond for the guests. The bar team were great too, serving everyone quickly. They catered for 150 of us very well at my brother's wedding. The barn is a perfect venue, beautifully laid out, with lots of space, a big bar and a good sized dance floor. Thanks for such an amazing evening!
