The White Dog Inn

The staff were attentive and very polite, and The White Dog has such a nice country pub atmosphere. We came for my husband's birthday lunch. I had the Sea Bass, which was delicious, and he ordered the Burger. He reckoned it was the best pub burger he’d ever had. We’ll be back soon.

The garden is a real draw in summer, with a great view and good beer. There’s a fantastic beer selection, and the food is high quality and tastes great. I’ve been here loads over the years, and recently came for dinner with my other half. We had a brilliant time, with great service, phenomenal food and a lovely atmosphere. It’s popular with locals as well as people driving in, and the pool table’s a great extra. 10/10.

The Festive Menu came with three courses, crackers, a hot drink and an after-dinner chocolate truffle, which I loved. The toffee muffin and mince pie ice-cream were especially delicious, and most of the food was great. The starter’s crostini slipped off the plate onto the table when it was served, along with the berries. The waitress brought more, but it was so hard I struggled to eat it. When I told the staff, they swapped it for bread, which was much better. It was a lovely evening overall, and I’d come back for food and drinks.

We’re local and have had lunch here lots of times, though we didn’t stay overnight. This visit, the service let us down. Two people seemed to be looking after us separately without communicating, and there were still long delays. Just not great this time. It’s still a lovely pub, with a fab garden in summer.
