The meal itself was good and I enjoyed it, though it felt a little overpriced. I’d expected a relaxed, rustic place with a great dining experience, but the upkeep and hygiene let it down.

We found the park and ride into the city centre really handy. The pub and hotel were delightful, the staff looked after us well, and the price felt fair. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, freshly cooked, and served in generous portions. Our room was comfortable, if a bit tired in spots, which didn’t spoil the stay. Though we were on the main road, the double glazing kept the traffic noise out well. We’d definitely return.

Lunch was absolutely lovely, with generous portions and beautiful food. The staff were really friendly too. I’m so glad we went, and if I lived closer I’d be a regular. Highly recommend the food.

The garden beside the river looks like it’d be lovely in summer, and there’s plenty of parking, though you do have to cross a busy road to get to it. We stopped in for a drink and a meal while passing through. The service was friendly, and the ham, egg and chips came as a big plateful, with plenty of ham and two eggs. Good value.

The portions were huge. I’ve got a good appetite, but I couldn’t finish the apple and winter fruits crumble and had to leave half. We stopped on the way home and chose the carvery two-course option for £14.99. All the food was lovely and we got a warm welcome. Across the road there’s a large garden right by the river. Apparently you can fish there if you have a rod licence.
