The room was basic but really nice, clean, and had everything we needed: plenty of towels, a large bathroom and hot water. We paid £60 a night for Friday and Saturday at the end of July. We'd been a little wary after reading reviews, but our stay turned out well. There was a TV, though we didn't watch it, so I can't comment on that. We did find it odd there was no room telephone, but we each had a mobile and didn't need one. A few months before our visit, a lovely woman, Brittany?, made the booking and saved our receipt. On arrival, Trina checked us in officially. It was her first day working alone after just starting, and she couldn't have been nicer. She showed us where the room was and went over a few rules. We met three receptionists and the gentleman who works evenings, and all of them were pleasant and friendly. The hotel looks a bit tired, and could use some fresh paint and new carpets. You can still see what a beauty it was, and hopefully it could be again. The main door is locked early in the evening, but you can ring the bell and someone will come.

We had a lovely time in the family room and would definitely stay again. There was plenty of room for our car, even though parking is on the street. The hotel felt secure, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The red-haired receptionist made us feel at home and got us checked in quickly. The door was shut when we arrived, but she answered promptly and welcomed us in. The room was spotless, spacious for two adults and two children, and had no issues with cleanliness or facilities. The stairway was very clean too. There's a patch of damaged decor on the way up, understandable in an older building, while the corridor and landing were lovely and full of character, with a chandelier and balcony. We'd booked another hotel up the road, but it turned into a nightmare, so we came here last weekend instead. The location was brilliant, with a nice restaurant across the road, local shops nearby, and the water park and money forest just a few minutes away. Thank you.

The room was dingy, with yellowing wallpaper, condensation inside and bathroom flooring curling at the edges. The shower was only lukewarm, and the kettle didn't work. At least the linen was clean and the bed reasonably comfortable. Overall, the place felt rundown and tatty, though it must have been amazing in its heyday. It needs a major renovation. I've paid less for better, and wouldn't recommend it. When I arrived, the front door was locked. I had to wait for the one staff member to unlock it and let me in.

There was no hand wash or soap, and the pillows were yellow. The George hotel felt very old and poorly maintained, with cleanliness a problem. It was unsettling to find that we were the only guests there, even though we were told it was fully booked. A complete disaster. I'd strongly advise avoiding it.

I paid £111 for one night, and wouldn't stay again even if someone offered me £111. The room had a horrible smell, and staff were the opposite of helpful. Every flush made the toilet smell of eggs, then it sounded like a jet engine as it refilled. The shower was smaller than a shoebox. My towels had dried toothpaste on them, so they clearly hadn't been cleaned. The room looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a year. Unless you're homeless, avoid this place at all costs.
