Our cottage stay for the five nights after arrival was very nice, but the first night was a mess. We’d booked through hotel.com and had email confirmations, with the payment already taken, yet the cottages had been double-booked for our arrival evening. The host made us feel as though the late booking was our fault. We had to find emergency accommodation elsewhere that night with our one-year-old child. Afterwards, we asked whether they could refund anything toward the extra costs. The host refused rather rudely, then, after a long email exchange, offered only half the cost of one night. That didn’t come close to covering what we’d spent.

The farm and its courtyard lawn are gorgeous. I especially loved the dawn swim and the chaotic BBQ and picnic out on the lawn. Watching my two-year-old cousins happily gather eggs from the hens was another highlight. Gail and Graham are such lovely hosts. If you're after a stay in the English countryside, this is the place. It feels like the very definition of a rural idyll.

We’d only had the wedding date booked with them for about three weeks when, more than a year ahead of the wedding, we changed our minds and asked to switch dates. The original date had already been double-booked, so we’d accepted another date that was okay but not perfect and paid a £500 deposit. Gail wouldn’t return any part of it. I’m still annoyed, even though we found somewhere else that was much better value for money and had a fantastic time there.

The South Downs, pool and tennis court are all right there, so I never feel the need to head elsewhere. I’ve stayed in the cottages at Sullington Manor Farm several times over the years. Thank you, Grahame and Gail!

We come back every year. The cottages have everything we need, and the surroundings are lovely. The pool is lovely too, and the cafe serves delicious food. Best place ever.
