We booked at the last minute for a late Sunday lunch and were made to feel very welcome by the staff and locals. The pub has a traditional feel and a great atmosphere. Lunch was excellent: the meat was cooked just right, with a good amount of delicious vegetables. The nut roast was tasty and generous too, and the pudding choices were better than expected. We’ll have to come back to try the main menus.

Everyone was friendly and helped make our overnight stay at the Amberley Inn a great experience. Our twin room was clean and cosy, with a beautiful view. The location was peaceful and lovely, and well placed for walks and visits to Stroud. We got a great deal and would definitely recommend it.

The towels were the highlight, honestly. Everything else was a letdown. Our room was small, which we expected under the sloping roof, but there was mould and damp on the ceiling and around the window. We were in a separate building, so getting there meant going outside to a tired, divided-up place that I’m not even sure I’d call a cottage. The bathroom was awkward too. You had to crouch or kneel in the bath to shower, and the toilet faced a radiator with no controls that made your knees boil. There was barely any pressure from the sink’s hot tap. The listed toiletries amounted to one bar of soap and two shampoo-conditioners, with no shower gel or bath soak. Breakfast was passable if you wanted a full English, and the sausage was very good. They had no croissants despite listing them. Cereal was an OK selection, the brown and white bread were fine, the jam wasn’t great and the coffee was OK. Even the ketchup came in sachets, as did the tiny portions of salt and pepper. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but after so many hotel stays, this one is right near the bottom.

The quiz was great fun, and the staff were so nice. We’d booked food and a couple of drinks on a Thursday, which turned out to be quiz night. The meal was brilliant too. Really nice pub, and we’d happily come back when we’re in the area.

We had a lovely family supper at The Amberley Inn and are looking forward to another visit. It’s under new management now, with the same lovely staff. We had starters and mains, and the food was good. The fire was roaring, there was a great choice of beer, and I had a Woodchester Valley rose. We had a fab time.
