We had dinner at the pub before heading to our gig, and the burger was one of the best I’ve tasted in ages. Our room was lovely and surprisingly spacious, with a small kitchen area. It’s a perfect spot, about a 20 minute walk into town. The new landlord had just taken over and was really welcoming. We’d stay again if we’re back in Stroud, and I’d recommend the pub.

For what we paid, the stay was poor value. The standard twin room was tiny, badly furnished and didn’t feel especially clean, though the bathroom was fine. Ours was on the ground floor, looking out at the car park and bins. Maybe the other rooms are better, but the pictures on Hotels.com of the rooms and the Inn didn’t look anything like what we got. At half the price, it might have been fair. The restaurant was closed, which was frustrating since it was half the reason I booked. I wouldn’t stay again based on this experience.

The owners and bar staff were fantastic, and we were given suite upgrades at no extra cost. There’s a lovely family atmosphere, with a great location in the Cotswolds overlooking the beautiful English countryside.

The Greek menu was a lovely touch, and I really enjoyed the food. It’s a friendly, dog welcoming place, and I had a great meal during my couple of nights in the area. I tried coming back the next evening, but they were very busy, which says a lot. I’d return if I’m in the area again.

Clare and the team made sure we were comfortable throughout, including our elderly dog. Dinner was delicious, and the real ale was spot on. They couldn’t have been more helpful. Thank you, The Star is easy to recommend.
