We didn't stay at the hotel, just called in while passing through on business. We were delivering one of our food trailers to customers at the local cricket club and spotted the breakfast offer on the way back. The quality was outstanding, and the small one was £3.95. It's a nice, clean place with friendly staff. As you can see, I didn't manage to finish it. Absolutely fantastic.

We were on our way to Morrisons for breakfast when we passed the Queen Vic and decided to give it a try. Good call. The regular breakfast was £5.95, with 2 of everything: sausages, eggs, toast, bacon, hash browns and black pudding, plus tinned tomatoes, beans and mushrooms. I got 3 slices of toast, and we ordered a pot of tea for two. Everything was piping hot, the food was great, and the customer service was great too. I'll definitely revisit, though after that I couldn't eat for the rest of the day. Glad I didn't go for 3 of everything for £7.99. Well done, Queen Vic at Roker.

At £50 a night, it was good value and I'd stay again without hesitation. The room looked worn, but the bed and all the bedding were spotless, and the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Breakfast isn't included, though you can buy it for under £10 including coffee. Just don't expect a Hilton or Radisson for that price.

Mother's Day lunch was a shambles. Our table was booked for 1pm, but when we arrived they'd given it away and moved us to a table next door that was one seat short. The bar staff didn't seem bothered, so we spoke with the other party ourselves. They were polite and had a smaller group, so they swapped. Getting drinks took 35 minutes in the queue, and they were out of Coke. When I paid, they couldn't give me all my change because there wasn't enough in the till. They said they'd bring it over, but never did. It was only loose change, but that's beside the point. The food took over 30 minutes, which on its own wasn't an issue, but out of our party of 7, only 2 meals arrived. One was wrong, though we accepted it after waiting so long. We had to ask for vegetables, as the meals came without any and they kept serving others. After 10-15 minutes we asked where the rest were because we expected to eat together. They took our order again, apparently not knowing what we'd ordered. Another 10 minutes later they apologised that they had no mince and dumplings, and brought just one of the five outstanding meals. Still no veg. By then we were fed up. Two of us asked for refunds, then waited around another ten minutes while staff ran about serving other people. We left without the refunds and asked another person in our party to collect the money and bank transfer it, because over an hour and a half had passed and we were too hungry to wait any longer. We won't be back in a hurry. No disrespect to the two staff working, who looked stressed. They said one staff member hadn't come in, but I think even one extra pair of hands would have made no difference. What should have been a nice day was a mess, with the Just Eat orders taking priority over people eating in.
