The Tawny Owl

We booked four rooms for a family wedding, with adults and children in our group, and had a fabulous stay. The rooms were spacious, very clean and had everything we needed, including plenty of hot drinks, an iron and a hairdryer. The women who checked us in were friendly and attentive. We had a great evening, then enjoyed a breakfast with lots of choice, from sweet pancakes to a full English. Really friendly, clean and good value. Five stars from us!

The Parliament Room at The Tawny worked perfectly for a 21st birthday. The setting was stunning, the food was first class, and we all had a brilliant time. From the start, the team were attentive and helpful, and nothing seemed too much trouble. They went out of their way to make the celebration feel special. I’d highly recommend it as a venue.

27th October 2025. Room 1, Peacock, looked spotless and lovely when I first saw it in the late afternoon, though the Bar Manager had trouble opening the door. When I came back at 9.30pm, I couldn’t get in myself and had to ask a barmaid for help. After some fiddling, she got it open. Inside, the kettle was stained black. The duvet cover had a dirty mark, and it was so thin it felt like a sheet, so I put my coat over myself to keep warm. The sink was cracked and only one tap worked. The bathroom was worse. The bath panelling was disgusting, black with mould and hidden behind a grey bin. The shower door seal was split, shredded, rotten and mouldy. I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. The bathroom windows were rotten and wouldn’t close. It was shabby, dirty and mouldy, a complete disaster. I’d planned to have breakfast but didn’t want it, and I had no intention of staying another night. The Manager wasn’t there, so I gave my key to a cleaner. The staff were polite, at least. I’m taking this further. I wouldn’t recommend The Tawney Owl to anyone. What a dump, please don’t go there.

For a baby shower, I hired the pub’s events room and ordered a buffet. The room was spotless, they provided white tablecloths, and the food was just right. Lots of guests told me how much they enjoyed it. The staff were really helpful and made the day feel perfect. I’d happily recommend the Tawny Owl.
