Amanda at the front of house made us feel very welcome and checked in on us during lunch. She also shared some of the castle's fascinating history, which goes back to the 11th century. The food and service were excellent. We visited on 30 January with my wife and elderly mother, as a late Christmas present for her. It's a hidden gem and well worth a visit.

I worked here before it became a hotel, so returning to the castle more than 30 years later brought back memories. My brother, who also worked on the outside and grounds maintenance, came with me. On this visit we stayed in the Honeysuckle Suite, with a lovely room and views, and enjoyed the food at Vavasour restaurant. If you're there during the week, book a history tour with Steve Watson. The castle's history is interesting, and Steve is a real asset who leads the tour very well.

The food was exceptional, with a wide choice for dinner, genuinely good prices and incredible quality. The staff were kind and helpful when I arrived. My room was warm, comfortable and well equipped, and the bed was very comfortable too. The property has a stunning setting and outlook. I'd happily stay again.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, from check-in to the restaurant, bar and spa. We spent a night at Hazelwood castle in the St Margaret's rooms, in the Primrose room, which was spacious and dog friendly. We had a lovely restaurant meal, and my wife had a spa treatment. The place has a lot of history, and the staff kindly let us into the chapel, where we found two human skulls in a corner. We'll definitely return. Tony, Deborah and Louis.

We explored the grounds, and everyone made us feel welcome. The historic building is beautiful, the temperature was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Our dog was welcome and was happy staying in the room on her own. It was perfect!
