I arrived the day before my wedding after a 6-hour drive, expecting the Superior King room I’d booked and paid for through Hotels.com. They tried to put me in an accessible king room designed for disabled guests instead. It was a completely different room type, with no proper bathroom, just open shower facilities for accessibility. I showed my receipt with the room type clearly stated, but the front desk woman refused to honour the booking or refund me, and made no effort to help. I asked about another room and was told there weren’t any. There was no offer to involve management or find a solution. The attitude was basically, “it’s not my problem.” When I said I wanted to complain to management about her behaviour, she wouldn’t even give me her name. It left me feeling this was either a serious lack of training or complete disregard for guests. I left on principle and managed to book somewhere nearby. About 40 minutes later, while I was driving there, she called to admit I was right, but said I’d have to return in person for my refund. I couldn’t do that, and they later refunded my card without me coming back, which proved that earlier claim false. I was eventually not out of pocket, but I was stressed, delayed and scrambling for somewhere else to stay when I should have been getting ready for my wedding. Avoid this hotel if you value honesty, professionalism and basic respect for customers.

A lovely old place. I only knocked off a star because I’m tired of being charged such astronomical amounts for coffee, which seems to be the thing these days since Costa and Starbucks came along. I didn’t stay over as it was a business day, so I don’t know what the rooms are like.

Breakfast was delicious, and the hotel had such a welcoming feel. Our room was clean and comfortable, with lovely touches in how the bed was dressed with cushions and the towels folded. Everyone was friendly and helpful, especially Alex, who worked so hard and was always glad to lend a hand.

The public spaces are clean and roomy, with plenty more railway memorabilia to look at. My room was spacious and clean too, and looked out over the station. The hotel has been refurbished with taste while keeping its charm and railway touches. Staff were welcoming and efficient, and breakfast was very good with prompt service. It’s right across the road from the train station and about a 10 minute walk to town. A real gem, and I’d happily stay again and recommend it.

Breakfast was fantastic 😍, and having freshly ground coffee with a cafetiere in the room was a real bonus for me. The room was large and very clean, though the shower felt a little underpowered for my taste. Still, it’s one of the nicest hotel rooms I’ve stayed in over the last year or two, outside of trips where I’ve covered two or three thousand miles or more. I loved the self-opening door at the entrance and how close the hotel is to the station. I did manage to miss reception at first, entirely my own fault, but the receptionist came to find me. Everyone I met was really friendly and a credit to the hotel. I’d recommend staying here in Taunton, though it’s so good I’m tempted to keep it a bit of a secret! ☺️
