The pub felt relaxed, and the staff were friendly to my family and me, but I was seriously let down by how my nut allergy was handled. I ordered a beef roast with stuffing and told the waitress about the allergy, especially asking whether the stuffing was safe. She checked with a colleague, but neither knew, and said she’d ask the kitchen. When the standard plate arrived, I still hadn’t been told. I had to ask again before learning the stuffing wasn’t safe to risk. I’m grateful someone checked, but with such a small menu, basic allergy information should be clear from the start, especially when you say you cater to allergies. Having to chase an answer made my anxiety spike, and I couldn’t enjoy any of the food I apparently could eat. I rarely complain, but I felt unsafe because the staff didn’t seem sure. Please take this seriously so others with allergies don’t have to question their safety. I understand the pub is dog-free, but a dog underneath our table while we were eating wasn’t appropriate.

We stopped for lunch at The George Inn Middle Wallop while travelling from West Bay to London, and it turned out to be a lovely break in the journey. The family-run place has a cozy feel, and the staff made us feel welcome. The menu had plenty of variety, from familiar pub dishes to more adventurous choices, all full of flavour and made with good ingredients. You can tell care goes into the cooking. It’s also a charming place to spend time, whether you’re pausing on a long drive or just looking for somewhere inviting to unwind. We had a delightful visit and would recommend making time for a stop here.

The George Inn was our overnight stop before driving to Stonehenge the next day. I arrived around 16:30 to a lively pub, with locals chatting and drinking both inside and outside. The young staff were pleasant and attentive. After checking in and freshening up, I had a delicious, hot meal, and I was glad the dish was served piping hot. My single room was a decent size for one and had an ensuite. The white towels were soft, the bed was very comfortable, and there was fresh cold water on arrival, plus a kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The ensuite could do with a proper clean, a new toilet brush and a bin. There was plenty of cheerful noise from the locals in the evening. My room faced the busy main road, but I like a bit of noise, so it didn’t bother me. Breakfast the next morning was beautifully cooked, with lovely local produce and vine tomatoes. I’d definitely come back.

A great stop on the way home. It’s very much a locals’ pub, and we were made to feel welcome. The staff were helpful, the ale was good, and we could order food. The pies were proper pies, not just meat with pastry on top, and there was plenty left for a takeaway box. Definitely somewhere I’d visit again.

The Arancini with chargrilled artichoke and mushroom and spinach velouté was packed with flavour, and the sticky toffee pudding was light and delicious. It’s been years since I’ve had a vegetarian pub meal this good. So many British restaurants lump vegetarians in with vegans and serve fake meat or bland vegetable dishes, so it was lovely to find proper veggie options here. The staff were really friendly, and they even brought a little bowl of treats for the dogs. Lovely pub, thoroughly recommend it.
