The Holford Arms - Campground

We had such an enjoyable two-night stay, and the food was so good on our first night that we went back for dinner the next evening. Breakfast was excellent too, with quality ingredients and plenty of choice. We found The Holford Arms on Travelzoo while looking for somewhere near Highgrove House. The indoor rooms were full, so we paid a little extra for a chalet. It doesn't look like much from outside, but inside this 16th century pub is lovely. We were greeted warmly and given clear directions to our chalet. The chalets at the back are spacious and well equipped, with gas heating, a modern bathroom, and chairs and a table outside where we could enjoy the afternoon sun. There are also bell tents and spots for campers and motorhomes, and they host weddings. All the staff were lovely.

Zoë was especially helpful in making room for us, and everyone we met was friendly. We stayed in one of the chalets, which was warm, cosy, and spotlessly clean. I liked the lit path through the camping area that led to the pub. Dinner by the fire was amazing, and the children's menu was just as good, with dishes well beyond the usual chicken nuggets and chips. Kids who love food should be very happy. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

The shower blocks were clean and clearly well looked after, and the pub's food and drinks were very good. We camped on a large pitch with electricity and water. It's a shame there's no chemical disposal.

There was a warm welcome, and we really enjoyed our stay. The pub has nice rooms, lovely food, and a great location, with friendly staff and good service. Breakfast was a highlight: the ingredients were wonderful and seemed like good local produce. Nothing pretentious, just people doing what they do well. Great value too, and we wouldn't regret staying here.
