The Spread Eagle Hotel

The people we dealt with were all friendly and helpful, and I’d consider coming back to stay in one of the newer rooms if we’re in the area again. We booked two rooms for two nights, both on the top floor of the Georgian section, the oldest part of the building. We expected them to be old and quirky, but both need investment in their appearance and plumbing. More work there could really improve the hotel’s quality and the overall experience. It’s in a great spot on Thame’s main street, but I’d avoid the older part.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the bed was comfortable. The room was basic but clean. Still, for the price, there’s a lot that could be better. It’s an old, dated building, and my room sloped, so I think there may be subsidence. There was a large water stain on the ceiling above the bed, from a leak at some point, a big stain or burn mark on the carpet, mould in the bathroom corner and a large crack above the bathroom door. I ate there once. The food was okay, but nothing special for the cost. I didn’t go down for breakfast.

Breakfast was a highlight, with a nice selection of fresh and hot options included in the stay. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Our deluxe suite was spacious, clean and really comfortable, with a great bed and a relaxing feel. We had a great stay and would happily recommend it and come back.

The restaurant food was brilliant, and all the staff I met were friendly. I stayed for a week in a suite. It’s a clean 15th Century building with lots of character and everything you need. Parking is easy to find right at the back, for a small fee.
