The view is the main draw: the house overlooks the Tintagel ruins, or at least King Arthur's statue on the island. It’s a nice, roomy place with a big kitchen and en-suite bedrooms. The hotel is no longer available as a hotel, but you can rent the whole house for a holiday weekend, and pets are allowed.

We only wished we could have stayed longer. We came across this place by chance while looking to add time to our Cornwall trip, and the terrace and the view from room 3 were amazing. The room was beautifully decorated, and the bed was so comfortable after a walk along the coastal path. We’ll definitely come back!

We first found the Avalon while searching for a decent coffee, and the friendly service and sea views made us return for breakfast. The poached eggs on sourdough were superb. Then we came back again for one of the best meals we’ve had in Cornwall. Anthony prepared a lovely intimate dinner, excellent in every way, and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for. Beautiful food and surroundings. Thanks, Anthony, we’ll be back!

The location is fantastic, and I’d highly recommend visiting the nearby castle ruins before hiking along the coast to Port William, which I’ve reviewed too. This is a lovely little B&B. The host was professional, welcoming and helpful, though not especially chatty. Our group of four waited almost 40 minutes for breakfast. There were lots of couples eating then, and I suspect the food was made fresh and brought out together. It was definitely worth the wait, and I hope to return.

Room 6 had a fabulous sea view, and the room itself was comfortable. The small bathroom was let down by a cracked sink that needs replacing if this is aiming to be a five star boutique hotel. Breakfast was a good continental one, ordered the night before. A Cornish full breakfast costs extra. Still, I had a good stay.
