Anchorage Hotel

We ordered late, but the receptionist, along with the chef and kitchen staff, went out of her way to make sure we could still get a meal. The welcome from the staff was genuinely warm, and the burger I ordered was exceptional. The burger places that make a point of calling themselves burger joints don’t compare with what the kitchen cooked here. Thanks so much, and keep up the good work.

The staff were lovely, and the location was perfect. We used the cafe for a drink and had no complaints, though we didn’t eat here. But the room was a letdown: dated and needing attention, with a dirty, stained bath, a patch of mould on the net curtain, and a dark corner that looked like damp. The chairs and carpet were stained, and the bed was hard and uncomfortable. We checked in at 6 pm but left before 2:30 am because the room was hot and uncomfortable. £90 for one night felt too steep. It was a shame, as the bed looked very big and the staff were so nice.

Their oat lattes are the best around, and I’ve had their delicious cream teas before too. The staff are always smiling, brilliant, and happy to help. There’s plenty of parking, and it’s close to Kerry Park for the kids, as well as a short walk from lots of charity shops and the Downs, where you can take in the lovely sea views and scenery.

I stopped by for the buffet breakfast, which I thought was good value at £8.50. The hotel looks clean, though it’s a little dated. It’s well situated for a football match at Plainmoor and a short walk from Babbacombe Downs. The off-season room prices also looked like good value.
