Roy, the proprietor, is always ready to help, and the hotel sits conveniently between Torquay and Babbacombe with a good bus route nearby. We love the straightforward, no-fuss hospitality. The rooms are clean, roomy and comfortable, with amazing beds and exceptionally hot water in the bathroom.

Useful shops are close by, and the hotel is easy to reach from both Torquay and Babbacombe. There’s free parking and the Wi-Fi is fast and reliable. I spent almost a fortnight here and found the place quiet, clean and very pleasant. Roy was kind, helpful and accommodating. I don’t know why some reviews are negative, though each to their own. I’d happily recommend the hotel and look forward to coming back.

We had two rooms for our seven-night stay at Anstey Lea and couldn’t fault either of them. The beds were really comfortable and the shower was great. The owners welcomed us warmly and were helpful with suggestions for places to visit. We’ll most definitely stay here again.

The room had a reasonable amount of space, but it was very basic for the price and there was no breakfast. A mini fridge for cold drinks would be useful on summer days. Getting back uphill after a quick shop was a bit of a trek. I saw the owner having a BBQ one evening, and it would have been nice if guests could have used it by bringing their own food. That might have saved a long walk and an expensive restaurant meal, which matters when you’re on a tight holiday budget.
