Belmore

I’ve stayed here twice for work and am still happy to come back. The first room, on the first floor, was huge, with both a separate shower and a bath. I was really pleased with it, and the room service food was pleasant. Breakfast had a great choice. On my second visit I’d asked for the same room, and staff called to confirm it, but it wasn’t available when I arrived. They apologised. The room I got was comfortable, though hotel lights right outside the window let in a lot of light, and I had many more stairs to climb. That wasn’t ideal with mobility issues.

Amy was friendly and helpful at reception. Since I’d checked in online beforehand, I was in my room within five minutes. I’d booked a double for one night, and the spacious room was well appointed, with a big bathroom too. The restaurant food was excellent and didn’t feel like the usual overpriced hotel fare. The stack burger and halloumi fries were freshly prepared and tasty.

We had a really enjoyable afternoon for my 78th birthday, and never felt rushed. I booked a table for four at 1 pm yesterday, with my wife and two friends. Helen and Amy gave us a warm welcome and took excellent care of us, attentive without hovering. The prix fixe menu was a great success: we ordered drinks while we waited, and they arrived promptly before the starters. We enjoyed the mushroom starter, soup of the day and prawn ‘cocktail’. The mains were just as good, especially the sea bass and 6oz rump steak. I particularly liked the doughnuts with caramel sauce and ice cream. Good wine, Sauvignon Blanc and Rioja, accompanied the meal, and we finished with good coffee and an amoretto. Helen and Amy are a credit to the Belmore. Thank you both!

Breakfast had good choices, though I didn’t enjoy the vegetarian option. The room was nicely furnished, with a good shower and small individual toiletries. At night, the extractor fans from other rooms were audible, and a really bright green light from a smoke or carbon detector was shining into the room. Take a sleep mask!
