The place has potential to be a really nice pub, but our meal was disappointing, and we won’t be rushing back. When we arrived, several staff members walked past without greeting us or seating us, despite the restaurant being almost empty. It felt like we were putting them out. We ordered a roast and only discovered when it arrived that the roast potatoes had been substituted. Nobody mentioned it or offered us a chance to change the order. There was hardly any interaction through the meal, no welcome, smile or check-in. Mostly I heard a staff member shuffling their feet nearby. We told a staff member we weren’t happy, and the manager seemed to overhear but walked away without talking to us. Better management and some customer service training could make it a lovely pub, but our visit fell short.

The rooms were spacious, clean and nice, and the pub food was delicious. The whole place has a homely feel, with welcoming, friendly staff throughout. It’s a fantastic place to stay, just a short drive from Manchester airport. We’ll definitely return.

The Sunday roast was spot on: tender beef, crispy roast potatoes and a huge, fluffy Yorkshire pudding. The chunky chips were a highlight too, crunchy outside and fluffy inside. There’s a generous menu with veggie and gluten-free options, and the portions are generous. It isn’t the cheapest, but the food and service are worth it. The recent refurbishment at The Bulls Head looks stunning. The garden room’s beautiful lighting and special atmosphere make it feel fancy, not just like a local pub. The staff were brilliant, especially Jack, Craig, and Niamh, who were friendly, attentive and went above and beyond. I was blown away. Highly recommended.

The team made our bank holiday weekend a lovely one. We spent two nights here and had a great time catching up with friends at The Bulls head. We’ve already booked for September and can’t wait to come back. Thanks to everyone, they deserve a pay rise!

The beef was very good and the Yorkshire puddings were fab, but the long wait and missing vegetables left us disappointed. We’d asked for parsnips and honey glazed carrots, then got another dish of seasonal greens with a few carrot batons and no maple glaze. The mash helped, while the roast potatoes had plenty of flavour but no crunch, more like boiled potatoes. The cauliflower cheese was only mediocre, so I wouldn’t pay extra for it again. Our starters, a Yorkshire pudding strip with gravy and pork crackling, took about 20 minutes, and we both enjoyed them. The Sunday dinners took 55 minutes, which was poor. We’d searched online for recommendations before choosing this place for lunch. We didn’t stay at the hotel, so can’t comment on that. Some of the carport was out of action during work to expand the car park, so we couldn’t park on site. The staff were polite, but not very attentive. It seemed like the place had a lot of potential, and perhaps a quieter day with food served at reasonable intervals would make for a better visit. Still, we both left disappointed and are unlikely to return.
