The facilities were excellent and kept clean. There are two toilet blocks, plenty of showers, and a useful common room with a TV, games, a big double freezer, kettles and a microwave. The camping fields are open and roomy, and you can pitch pretty much wherever you like. Electric pitches for caravans and motorhomes are more sheltered. The setting is hard to beat: mountains and distant ridges surround the site, with Saddleback (Blencathra) right above it. Though it's near the busy A66, you wouldn't know it. Ullswater and Aira Force are a short drive north, and Keswick is the closest sizeable town. We had a great time and would definitely return.

One of my favourite campsites in the Lakes. A friend and I stayed in a pod during storm Amy, and it was dry, warm and cosy. The shared area was great, especially being able to cook there in bad weather. It was fun meeting other people too. We'd happily recommend it.

The staff are really helpful, and nothing seems to be a problem for them. There's a well-stocked shop on site, wildlife for the kids to watch, and a good play area. Our pod worked well for our family of four and could be heated if we wanted. We had a picnic table and fire pit by our pod, perfect for winding down after a busy day. The facilities are fantastic, including a communal room open 24 hours, toilets, showers, fridges, freezers and kettles. A great place to base yourself for a weekend.

The busiest part was the weekend. We arrived on the Wednesday before the bank holiday, but by Friday there were cars parked everywhere and tents close together. Finding a parking spot near our tent was difficult, and my partner said the place looked more like a festival than a campsite. The facilities were very good, with plenty of toilets and showers and no waiting when I went late in the morning or evening. There was a communal area where we could charge our phones, plus two large fridge-freezers that we didn't use. Most people near us, on the far side away from the toilets, were quiet and considerate. One family was talking at 5am one morning, then on another day there were screaming children and adults talking loudly at 7am. The host can't really control that at those hours.

My son went here with his Year 6 class and came home with lasting memories, new experiences, life lessons and some history. He said he loved all the different activities and, with encouragement from the lovely staff, faced quite a few fears. They were given materials for each activity that would cost a fortune to buy just for one experience, which I thought was really helpful. He'd highly recommend it. Beautiful views too.
