A lovely rural spot with National Park views, and still easy to reach from the M6. The hosts made us feel welcome, and we really enjoyed the proper home-cooked food. Our little New Year stay was great, so we’ll be back xx

The room was spotless, and everyone we met, including the owner, was friendly and helpful. We only booked for one night, but I’m so glad we did. The place looks quite unassuming from outside, just off the busy A66, then you step into a nicely furnished interior that keeps its character. The food was exceptionally good too.

We were catching up as a family, and the food was excellent with friendly service. It was getting late, around 9pm on a weekday, and I got the impression they were ready to pack up. They didn’t seem keen for us to keep chatting unless we ordered something else. Fair enough, since we weren’t buying more.

Great service, and the pub classics were spot on: pie and sticky toffee pudding. My girlfriend loved her vegan curry and vegan chocolate pudding too. Hard to ask for much more from a pub.

The staff were lovely, and it’s a nice place inside. But the steak and ale pie is the thing I’ll remember. I’ve never had one that came anywhere near it, not even the pretty good pub ones. The photo’s perspective is way off, by the way.
