A great night out at a lovely little village pub, with a good choice of drinks and a nice evening menu. We had the ploughman's and ham, egg and chips. Both were cooked really well, and the quality ingredients made for a lovely meal. A big shout-out to the two ladies on front of house for friendly, spot-on service.

Clean, quiet and in a good location. It's a very basic two-star hotel, so guests should know that before booking. The pub was closed during our stay, which meant we couldn't try its food.

We only ate at the pub. There were some hits and misses, but the meal was alright overall. If traditional pub food is your thing, you might rate it four or five stars. For me, it was more of a three, with quality a little inconsistent. The whitebait was a tasty, crunchy starter. My MIL really liked the ham, egg and chips and left only two chips. I don't often see her clear her plate like that. My husband was impressed by his fish and chips, too. My fish pie tasted okay, but the fish pieces were badly overcooked and tough, almost leathery. My SIL wouldn't recommend the cheesy garlic bread. It looked like basic store-bought garlic bread with cheese added in the kitchen. Desserts were mostly fine. The crème brûlée went down well with the people who ordered it. My brownie was okay, though cakier and less chocolatey than the best brownies I've had. I added coffee ice cream, but it barely tasted of coffee. The sticky toffee pudding was swimming in sauce, maybe drowning in it. My MIL had ordered custard on the side, but the pudding really didn't need it, so she ate the custard separately with a spoon.

A brilliant pub with a lovely atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. They made us feel welcome even though we weren't locals. The gluten-free menu for coeliacs is fantastic, with at least six main dishes and puddings as well.
