The food was great, especially the curries and the creamiest scrambled egg I’d had in years. Staff were friendly and helpful, and our rooms were clean and comfortable, though dated. We stayed while on our Cumbria Way holiday.

I only stopped in for dinner, not a stay, and was really impressed. The chicken tikka masala with rice and chips was spot on, and the sticky toffee pudding with custard was amazing. Service was incredibly quick, the pub was cosy and warm with a great atmosphere, and the staff were friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Cycling through the area, we stopped here for an exceptional meal. The welcome from the friendly staff and the warm, cosy atmosphere made it even better. I’d highly recommend the red lion if you’re nearby, and I’ll certainly be back.

The home-cooked food was absolutely delicious, good value and served quickly. The waitress was polite, though not especially smiley, and the facilities were clean. Parking wasn’t great, but it’s in the middle of nowhere, so that’s to be expected.

The Bank Top Flat Cap is one of the top two or three bitters I’ve had in my 20 years of drinking. I tried the three cask ales over three visits across four days, and every pint was in perfect condition. The landlord was brilliant, pouring a pint for me like I was a local and keeping an eye on everything. Our family dinner was great too. A proper locals’ pub that made visitors feel welcome.
