The evening was the best part of our one-night stay in the bird room with our dog, Honey, our cockapoo. The pub had a brilliant atmosphere, the meal was lovely, and the bar and evening waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Our waiter and barman had only been there two weeks, but was happy to talk us through the menu. Honey got the best welcome pack we’ve ever seen, and the woman who showed us to the room was lovely too. The room was well equipped with a massive shower. The heat made the night rough, though. It was 27 degrees, even with the fan, and Honey panted and struggled all night. I left the top of the barn door open, which meant I barely slept. It was the hottest day in May on record, so I don’t blame anyone for that. Breakfast was another story. My wife liked her pancakes, but my full English came on a cold plate, with cold bacon, black pudding and beans, plus lukewarm sausage, eggs and hash brown. We were the only two there at 7:40 am. I didn’t mind waiting 20 minutes because I thought it was being cooked fresh, but I’ve had hotter buffet breakfasts at other bed and breakfasts we’ve visited with our dog over the past six years. I left most of it. The waiter wasn’t approachable and didn’t clear our plates. When we asked where to leave the key, he said on the desk, and nobody was there when we left. A key drop box would help early leavers. I’d give the first day three stars, but the pub was one of the most dog-friendly places we’ve stayed, so I’m settling on four stars for the first day and minus one for the morning service and staff member.

The little enclosed courtyard and jacuzzi were a lovely extra, and the restaurant food was very nice, with charming, helpful waiting staff. We spent two nights at the Bell with our Cockerpoo, Bobbi, and everyone made a fuss of her from the moment we arrived. We stayed in the outside lodge called "the Pour Amour". It was quirky and beautifully decorated, clean and tidy, with virtually everything we and Bobbi needed. The huge double bed was also extremely comfortable. The en suite bathroom, shower and wetroom were just as nicely presented, with quality dispensers for shower soap, body wash and shampoo, plus soft towels and dressing robes. We’d thoroughly recommend the Bell for a relaxing stay, whether or not you have a dog.

The garden has lots of sweet little corners, and the outdoor kitchen gives it a lovely rustic feel. Our large group was well looked after, the service was fantastic, and everyone loved their food. Can’t wait to return. Thanks, guys!

The gardens gave Ciara and Alex’s guests a gorgeous place to gather after the ceremony, and the firepit made a cosy, lively centre for the evening. I’ve worked at lots of venues, and The Bell in Ticehurst is one of the most characterful and flexible wedding venues I know. It’s also a gem to photograph. The prep rooms have fantastic natural light, and the ceremony room looks gorgeous on camera, with an intimate, rustic atmosphere. The high-quality accommodation on site is a nice bonus for couples after a quirky, stylish wedding day that feels stress-free. Highly recommended!

Rita loved her welcome kit, with a dog bed, toy, treats and water bowl. The whole place is so dog friendly, and the garden rooms and lodges are creative, lovely designs. We had such a good stay at this characterful pub. The food was delicious and excellent quality, and the staff went out of their way to look after us. I accidentally left my Kindle in the room, but they found it and posted it back. You won’t regret booking. Thank you, Team Bell!
