Woolpack Hotel

We chose the Woolpack because it was near the brewery where we had a function, and the reviews praised the food, so we expected a good experience. We were very disappointed. The booking information said breakfast was included, but when I asked when it was served, they said they don't do breakfast and couldn't change the website. Since they knew the listing was wrong, they should have told us when we booked. Finding a pot of instant porridge on the desk wasn't acceptable for a £90 room. The listing also said no deposit was needed, but they took one, then charged the rest two days before arrival. A bar staff member stood smoking outside the entrance, right below our bedroom window. Not pleasant.

It's a typical locals' pub and could do with modernising, but the homemade Sunday lunch is superb. Whenever we visit Wainfleet, we always eat here. Dogs are welcome.

Generous portions, freshly made and served hot. It's a lovely place with a great atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and very helpful about my dairy intolerance. I'd happily visit again when I'm in the area.

The food was plentiful, reasonably priced, and came with great service. Since it's part of a Batemans pub, there's a good choice of ales at the bar. We went for food while staying nearby. The one downside was buying bottles of ale to take away: six bottles cost £33.50, while 12 directly from the brewery cost £29. That said it all.
