Shops and restaurants are only a short walk from the entrance, and the hotel has loads of parking. It’s also right by the main transport links to Walsall. We stayed for just under a week and had an amazing time. The rooms were spotless and well kept, and the staff were exceptionally friendly.
Our car window was smashed while it was in the car park. There are only about 10 spaces allocated to the Travelodge, with the rest belonging to the retail park. The staff were friendly, but the air conditioning in our room kept switching itself off. They offered us a fan, but not another room. We’d paid for AC and were there during a heatwave, so a fan wasn’t enough. My parents stayed in a different room and their AC worked, with a lovely temperature in the room. If the air conditioning is working and the day isn’t too hot, I’d say the rooms are pretty good.
My stay was refunded, but the main problems were left unresolved. After this experience, I can no longer trust Travelodge for overnight stays. Accessibility means little if it disappears when staffing is inconvenient, and disabled guests shouldn’t be blamed for failures that belong to the hotel. As an advocate for fellow wheelchair users, I strongly advise avoiding this hotel and Travelodge as a whole. I’m a wheelchair user, and the hotel refused to check me in because there weren’t enough staff on duty. This was my fourth solo booking since September, and my first three solo stays, along with three stays with my husband at other Travelodge hotels, had gone ahead. I’d also stayed successfully at this same hotel just four weeks earlier. I’d booked an accessible room four days before check-in, without assistance in an emergency. At reception, the only staff member there couldn’t complete my check-in without repeatedly calling a manager. I stood there while they made around six calls trying to sort it out. It showed a clear lack of staffing and on-site support, especially for accessibility issues. When I complained to Customer Services, they accused me of not booking an accessible room, although I had. They then said I should have called ahead to check. The booking process doesn’t say that’s required or that accessibility depends on staffing that day, and I’ve never had to do this for any other hotel booking. Responsibility kept being put on me instead of anyone acknowledging the wider procedural inconsistencies and failures. The company has consistently refused to take responsibility.
A nice, simple stay close to Birmingham, and good value. Our room was spotless, with a modern bathroom, and the whole visit was pleasant. The reception staff and security team gave great service. I’d recommend it.
Leanne at reception made the visit especially memorable. She welcomed me so warmly, was friendly and professional, and had such positive energy that I felt at home right away. We even shared some sweets, a fun personal touch that made me smile. Travelodge Walsall was clean and comfortable, with everything I needed for a relaxing stay. It’s good value, and the staff really are lovely. I’d happily recommend it. Thanks again, Leanne!
