The first impression was poor: the hotel looked closed from outside, with only a couple of laminated A3 notices on the glass doors and bad signage. Reception smelled musty too. Inside my room, the sink was badly cracked, the carpet looked dirty with age, and the chair’s worn plastic had rubbed away. There was even an old COVID sticker or something still on the bathroom mirror. It felt like the new owners were working on a tight budget and hadn’t invested in a proper sign. I’m sad they opened the place in this state under new management. They won’t keep customers or get people to return, and whoever bought it doesn’t seem to understand the hotel business. I wouldn’t recommend it, and one star feels generous. I didn’t even feel like staying for breakfast. The biggest issue for me was that there were no fire evacuation procedures in the room. I thought those were mandatory. New management should check out the competition if they want occupancy to improve.

I’d asked in advance for an early check-in so I could join an online meeting, and the hotel did a great job arranging it. The business still seems to be a work in progress, but the location is great, just a 10-minute walk into Wetherby, with a good choice of restaurants.

The location is good, with an easy walk into town. Breakfast was a good continental spread, though the machine coffee wasn’t great, so I’d stick with tea. The staff were friendly but couldn’t help much, and the rooms, while clean, are very tired. Wi-Fi was dismal: some nights it stopped working, and on others it was as slow as 1 Mbps. When I asked at the desk, I was told, “we have many rooms booked”. That’s not good enough.
