The Beresford Arms

There are plenty of country walks around this lovely old village, and Morpeth is a drive away if you want a busy historic town. The Inn had a lively bar with an open fire on Friday, though Saturday evening was quiet. We ate well, with a great choice of food in the restaurant, and the staff looked after us brilliantly. Our room was in the annex. It was a little basic, but clean and adequate for a couple of nights.

I wish this place was my local. The beer and wine were great, and the service was lovely. I had the seasonal steak dish with pureed parsnips, potato and blue cheese parcels, and it was all exceptional. The cheese served with honey, orange and fruitcake was the standout.

We often cycle here for breakfast, and it’s always a real treat. This time, dinner was delicious too: duck wellington followed by crumble, both nicely presented, with excellent, friendly service. All the staff are lovely. The room was nice, with a lovely bathroom and wet room shower. It’s dog friendly, so the hard floor was ideal.

We sat outside in a lovely, quiet spot, and it was lush in the nice weather. It’s a cute country pub. The steak in the sandwich was great quality, though the portion might have been a bit small. You do get quality meat.
