The cottage is well kept and cleverly arranged to make good use of the space. Whitby views are stunning, and waking to the sound of the ocean was wonderful. The neighbours were friendly and chatty, too. Sadly, our evenings were repeatedly disrupted by a group of youths playing loud music, drinking and smoking, and generally causing trouble. One evening, as we watched what should have been a lovely sunset from the balcony while our children played in the sand below, they shouted abuse at us, including my poor nine-year-old daughter. It really spoiled the stay. I tried calling the non-emergency police number once but couldn’t get through. The neighbours said this happens regularly. What a shame.

The exterior looked very run down on arrival and needs a lot of work compared with the neighbouring cottages. Inside, there was mail and old magazines piled in the entrance corner. The walls throughout were stained, cracked and covered in unnecessary plaster, and the windows were dirty and didn’t face the advertised areas. The furniture was stained, dirty and rickety. Carpets were filthy throughout; the downstairs bed had stains, and neither the beds nor pillows had protectors. The bathroom needed repairs. The kitchen was uncomfortable to use because there was no room for food in the cupboards, and two full rubbish bags in one cupboard left a foul smell. There were no cleaning products or dish soap, and thick cobwebs in every room. We’d been told there would be TVs in all the rooms, but there weren’t, and the internet didn’t work either. Given what we paid and the things we were told would be provided, I’m dissatisfied with what was actually there.

We had a very nice, cosy week. There’s no parking at the property, but we got a 24-hour parking permit for the week at Endeavor, and it’s a bit cheaper at the tourist information centre. Plenty to see and do, and pets are allowed.

We stayed for two nights and had an excellent time right on the beachfront. It feels like time stands still here. The place was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and getting down to the beach with the dog was easy. Thanks again!
