The staff were lovely, and the drinks were good and reasonably priced. I didn’t eat here, but the food looked good. I came for a comedy festival in the grounds. The old rooms are quirky and spacious, with a good ensuite. They’re a little dated, but the price is fair.

At a 60th birthday party here, we had a beautiful, high-quality five-course meal. Even with over 100 guests, everything came out piping hot, and there were ample potatoes and vegetables for the table. They also asked if we wanted more. The staff were very friendly. I’d highly recommend it.

I left a shirt in my room when I rushed off in the morning. They posted it back and wouldn’t take anything for postage, even though I offered. That kind of customer service goes a long way. The staff were welcoming and kind, and the service was great. I’d definitely stay again.

The room was okay, but the shower barely had any pressure, just a dribble. It cost £95, and we won’t stay again or recommend it. There were quite a few other unhappy guests too. Our room wasn’t ready until 5.45, despite check-in being listed from 2.30. Breakfast was supposed to start at 7am; we booked for 8am but waited until 9, and the sausages were virtually raw, so I ended up with toast. Only two staff were occasionally visible. We had to ring the bell for them, then ask for bread to toast and butter. The service was appallingly slow. It’s a shame, as the place has potential, but it needs more staff.

The hotel went out of its way to get an item important to us back to us as quickly as possible after we left it behind. We had a wonderful, friendly welcome despite Covid, and the small rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was perfect, and town is within walking distance. I can’t recommend it more.
