Tracey, the owner, is lovely, friendly, and has a delightful Geordie accent. Breakfasts are excellent and it’s good value for money. The place is close to the promenade and town centre, and I’d be happy to recommend it. I stayed three nights and can only speak about my single room. It was compact but adequate, comfortable, and clean. The shower cubicle seemed designed for anorexic midgets, not guys who are 6-1 and 14 stone, but the water pressure was great and the water VERY hot. There’s no lift, and parking is limited to two cars. With lots of B&Bs on the street, parking is at a premium.

Stephen and Tracey made us feel very welcome during our two nights there. Our room was the one shown above, and it was lovely, spacious, and airy. Tracey made us a lovely breakfast. We heard she had two dogs and just had to meet them, so we had fun with the adorable Bella and Millie. After checkout, Tracey kept our luggage until we were leaving Whitley bay. We’ll definitely be back.

The breakfast was lovely, and the lady who served it made up for the man who greeted us, who wasn’t very friendly or informative. The toilet macerator was so noisy we couldn’t flush at night. Our ground floor room was near the front door, and people would stand outside our window smoking and talking loudly. A sign asking them not to smoke in front of the windows might encourage them to go out onto the street instead.

The welcome is always warm, and it’s clean, basic, and homely. Breakfast is great, and they allow my pet. It’s only a two minute walk to the beach. I’ve stayed here a few times over the past few years.

The Esplanade Lodge is just a few minutes on foot from the Metro and buses, and close to central Whitley Bay and the seafront promenade. Stephen and Tracy, the husband and wife team who run it, go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. A full English breakfast is included in the price. There are two off street parking spaces, or usually plenty of nearby street parking.
