The Hillcrest Hotel

There was constant noise through the night, with doors slamming and making it impossible to rest. The corridor also had a strong, unbearable smell of tobacco and other substances. In the room, the pillows were dirty and smelled bad, and there was toothpaste left by the sink when I arrived. The towel rack fell off the wall as soon as I tried to use it, and the heating didn’t work at all. I’m extremely disappointed. This has been far below expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to anyone.

I’m still waiting for the manager to call or get in touch, after being told I’d have to wait until Monday for a refund. I’d booked for 1-2 weeks, but I’ll have to rethink that. My first room had people partying next door; in the second, the bed was broken and there was blood on the sheets. Young lads aged 14-16 were banging on doors, and the lock to get into the room didn’t work. The duty manager downstairs was really helpful and apologetic, but I couldn’t reach the manager. I worked at this hotel years ago, when it was run like a hotel. I’m not sure what it’s run like now, but things need changing. One of my worst stays ever.

Thankfully, I was only there for one night. The staff were friendly, but the room was nothing like the good looking pictures online. It was tired and unclean, with marks and stains everywhere. The bathroom had broken sanitary fittings and mould, and the shower was abysmal.

The shower didn’t work, and the carpet could’ve been cleaner. On the plus side, our large double had a super king bed, tea and coffee, a microwave and a fridge. The room lock worked with a code, so there were no key problems, and there was a bath as well. Staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was nice and good value. There’s a lift, a wheelchair ramp, good ground floor toilets, and a great function room.
