Fordbank House

We stayed for two blissful nights in May 2023. Fordbank House was beautiful, well organised and had good facilities. The owners know the area well and pointed us to great places to eat and visit. Breakfast was excellent. I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting and will definitely book again.

We spent four nights at Fordbank House, a bed and breakfast near Wigtown. The breakfast was good but average, and the bathrooms in all the guest rooms are very, very small, though that's the one thing the landlady can't help. She only left biscuits on the first day. The room setup was inconvenient. There was no wardrobe for clean clothes or the clothes we planned to wear again, just two hooks on the door for wet jackets and clothes, with only four hangers. There wasn't enough light to read in bed, and the dressing table was too dark to use. No chairs were provided, although there was room for them, and there was no guest lounge, so we had to sit on the bed. There wasn't daily room service: waste wasn't cleared, and we weren't told where to take it ourselves. We didn't get clean cups each day, and there was no way to wash and dry them in the room. The landlady scolded us for leaving towels on the bathroom floor to get clean ones. She said she isn't a hotel and normally provides fresh towels once a week. We left them there because they wouldn't dry; she didn't heat the first floor in May, when evening temperatures outside were only about 12 degrees Celsius. Another couple also told us their room was cold in the evening and morning.

A lovely place, with brilliant rooms and a magnificent view. We had a very comfortable stay, with top quality food and service, and the location was good. Would stay again and recommend it.

The surroundings were beautiful, the food was very good, and the beds were the best I’ve ever slept in. Excellent accommodation.
