Novotel Wolverhampton

The breakfast was awesome, and check-in was quick, but we booked another hotel for the night. Our room smelled musty and wasn’t clean. There were stains all over the carpet, mould around the window, and the toilet was dirty. There was no waste bin or sink.

Everything inside the hotel was clean and worked as it should. We were comfortable, and breakfast was good. The view is naturally limited to a car park or ring road, but for what the hotel offers, the value was really good. No complaints from us.

I’d stayed here more than 20 times over the last couple of years, though not for about five months before this visit. Maybe I was just unlucky, because this room was awful: stained carpet, really run down, and a strong smell of damp and smoke. The aircon would run for a few minutes, get very noisy, then make a huge bang and stop. I’ve had plenty of good stays here, so hopefully this was just a one-off bad room and not the hotel going downhill.

We got to check in early, which was handy, and the room was generally good, but the safe was locked. At checkout they said it was being maintained, though nobody had mentioned that when we arrived, and I’m not sure what maintenance a room safe needs. The bar had a good selection, but after our concert we waited 15 minutes for staff to show up. At checkout they also tried to charge extra, saying I hadn’t paid the right amount at check-in. Fortunately, I had the email from before arrival showing I’d paid correctly.
