The White Lady

We held my father’s wake at the White Lady yesterday. He’d been going to the pub for nearly 40 years, so it was a perfect place to celebrate his life. The food and service were excellent.

I was there for work. The rooms were big, and the menu was limited but good. The beer’s always a winner. You might be disturbed by the church bells, but they never bothered me. Cheers.

We went for dinner on Saturday evening. The website menu looked fine, but once we arrived, the only choices were a burger or fish and chips. The young guy serving us seemed clueless. The food itself was OK, though.

Breakfast was the highlight, expertly made by head chef Brandon, whose hospitality was second to none. We enjoyed our two nights in this beautiful, fairly secluded spot, and the hotel would make a good base for exploring the area. For the price, I’d recommend it. Our room was spacious, with a wardrobe and drawers, plus a kettle and plenty of tea bags, coffee and biscuits. The double bed was fine, though its coil sprung mattress wasn’t the most comfortable. The bathroom was nice and the shower was good. There was a bit of a damp, musty smell in the hall and bedroom, but it wasn’t much of an issue. The bar was fine, like a local pub with mostly local patrons. My one bit of constructive criticism is that the internal doors could do with a simple clean.
