The Grousemoor Country House

There’s plenty of room for a big group, with large shared spaces and enough seating for everyone. The property was immaculate and beautifully presented, and we’d definitely come back. We stayed for a joint 40th birthday and weren’t disappointed. Communication was quick and easy from the time we booked. On arrival, we were greeted and shown around, which was a lovely touch. The bedrooms felt like a luxury hotel, each with its own en suite, most nearly as big as the bedrooms. Outside, there was a large patio with a huge table, plus a covered lounge area with a hot tub. It was ideal to still enjoy being outside together when the weather wasn’t great. There were loads of fridges and freezers, handy for our large group’s food and drinks. The log fire made the lounge feel warm and homely, and there was room for everyone to cosy up around it in the evening. The only niggle was the Aga. None of us knew how to use it, and as it was the only working oven, cooking meals for a large group took longer. We worked around that by starting earlier, cooking in batches and keeping food warm while the rest was prepared.

The food looked lovely and tasted just as good, and the staff were so warm and welcoming all day. We were here for a wedding, and the rooms had loads of character with beautiful decor. The Grousemore is a gorgeous hotel and pub, with lovely scenery for photos. Such a special place for a wedding, and I’d happily come back.

We had a blast, all of us, about a dozen people. There’s loads of room to chill out and keep your drinks cool, and the place feels really homely. It works brilliantly indoors or outside. We’ve stayed at quite a few lodges within 90 minutes of Manchester, and this was the best of them. We’ll definitely book again.

Breakfast was amazing, and the food and drinks were superb throughout. We came with a big group for my parents-in-law’s wedding anniversary and arrived really late, but the owners were attentive and made me feel looked after. The rooms were well equipped, with roomy beds and big modern bathrooms. A great stay, and next time we plan to walk over from Llangollen for Sunday lunch.
