The gardens and seating areas were lovely, and the location was fantastic. A few more parasols near the function room and the outdoor area for room 15 would help. The staff were attentive, kind and polite, and dinner was good quality, with a nice choice and quick service. Room 15 was comfortable and nicely presented, with useful basics like an iron, ironing board, hairdryer and fan. They’d left water, tea, coffee and pod coffees, and both TVs and the Wi-Fi worked well. The bathroom and entrance ceilings are low, so I was glad I didn’t have to duck much. A mini fridge would be handy, especially in hot weather, and could also let guests pay a bit extra to keep drinks cold. It’s a beautiful old building, with exposed beams and a thatched roof, so the floorboards creak. You can hear guests above, even when they aren’t being noisy. The bar was well stocked, though there were only two larger drafts on tap. I tried hawstones and it was decent. The prices were what you’d expect for the area, £15.50 for a pint and a preseco. Breakfast is what brought this down from five stars. The cold choices, fruit, yogurt and cereals were fantastic, and the sausages and bacon were great. The hash browns were overcooked and fell apart when I tried to cut them, there were no fried eggs, and the scrambled eggs looked overdone. My wife didn’t finish hers. The staff were kind and helpful, though, and when decaf coffee wasn’t on the table, a team member brought a pot for my wife. Great place and lovely staff. With a parasol next time and a slightly better hot breakfast, I’d come back for a few days to explore the area, hopefully this year. Thanks to the team.

The countryside location was great, and I really appreciated having my room serviced each day, which I hadn’t expected. I was here for work and had a lovely stay. Everyone on staff was friendly, helpful and polite. I had three dinners, and every one was amazing, especially with a pint of hawkstone cider. Breakfast came out hot and promptly every morning. I’d love to stay again.

I’ve been coming here regularly for the past 3½ years, and the improvements over that time have made each stay better. The rooms are always clean and really comfortable, and the team are consistently friendly and helpful. Thanks especially to Tina and Irina for making me feel so welcome. Dinner at the restaurant is generous, hot and delicious. I’d happily recommend staying here.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. On our last day, though, there was no hot water because the boiler had apparently been switched off, and it took ages to warm up again. They did let us check out later because of it.

My daughters put a lot of effort into making my 80th birthday a memorable evening, and there was enough cake for everyone, thank goodness. But the food portions at the surprise party last Saturday 21/2/26 were so small that my husband and I had to get food afterwards. Some guests had travelled a long way, and one couple had even stayed at the hotel. I was embarrassed to hear that people had to stop for food on their way home. My daughter sent everyone an apology the next day because of the small portions. The room was good, and the food tasted alright, but there really wasn’t much of it. My sister in law had travelled from Southampton and said her finger sandwich had only lettuce and tomato. It was my 80th birthday, so it was disappointing that the food let the evening down.
