Holiday Inn York City Centre by IHG

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading some reviews, but we had a really nice night here with my husband and two grandsons. The family room was clean and pleasant, and the shower was very good. Shampoo, conditioner and lotion were provided too. The staff were pleasant, and breakfast had plenty of choice. It's in a fantastic location, and we'd stay again.

The room was spacious and very clean, and breakfast was quite good. The restaurant staff were fantastic too. What really stood out was how kindly and professionally the hotel handled a delay after I had a minor medical issue elsewhere. We got back late and needed more time to check out, and they offered a late checkout without charge. They also kept our bags for free until our train at 8 that evening, even though we needed to retrieve and repack something. We were only there Tuesday night, but when we're back in York, we'll stay here again.

We really appreciated Javvad helping us feel comfortable again. On our first night, we were in a clean, tidy and spacious room that seemed set up for families, with a connecting door in the middle. During the night, a man who sounded very drunk kept knocking and asking us to open the door so “we can have fun.” We felt extremely uncomfortable. Reception found us another room in around 20 minutes, and Javvad moved us much farther from the original room. It might have taken only 5-10 minutes if we hadn't needed so long to repack everything we'd already unpacked. Thanks again to Javvad for making the move as easy as possible.

The friendly, helpful staff made our short break better, and the location was the main reason we chose the Holiday in York. It's handy for exploring the city. The building feels dated and could do with better maintenance, though. We also had frustratingly inconsistent hot water in the shower at busy times. Great spot and good service, but the facilities need attention.
